How to Understand the Size and Structure of a Country’s Workforce

This article shows how to find and interpret a country’s total workforce and occupational structure using HolonIQ’s Labour Market Intelligence.

Understanding the Size and Structure of a Country’s Workforce

Before you start

  • Ensure the country is included in your HolonIQ subscription. If it is not visible, contact your account admin or support to request access.


1. Selecting the country

  • Open Labour Market Intelligence.

  • Use the country selector in the page header or the left-hand filter panel:

- Type the country name in the search box or choose it from the dropdown/ list.

- Confirm the selected country appears in the active filters.


2. Finding total workforce numbers (Highlights report)

  • Navigate to ReportsHighlights

  • The Highlights report displays several of the country’s headline metrics

  • You will find Total workforce (absolute number of workers in 2025) next to the "Workforce by Major" header from the Occupation Size column.


3. Breaking down workforce by major occupation groups and occupations

Other details on Occupations that you can find in the Highlights report

  • View the breakdown of the "Workforce by Major" and the "Median Salaries" in the Occupation Size column

  • View the “Top occupations" column showing the categories that have the best fit to the theme


4. Moving from high-level totals to detailed occupation reports

  • From the Highlights report, navigate to one of the Occupations reports.

  • Click an Occupation row or a chart element to open the occupation side panel.

In the Occupation side panel you can view:

  • Short description of the Occupation

  • Metrics on the number of workers for 2025 versus estimate for 2030, CAGR, median wage

  • Skills required for that Occupation (you can click on each Skill to display additional details in the panel).
