Accessing the Occupation Index
Navigate to Labour Market Intelligence.
Go to Labour Data and Reports.
Open the Index report from the reports bar.
In the country selection drop-down, you will only see countries included in your subscription.
Viewing the Largest Occupations by Default
By default:
Occupations are displayed in descending order by total number of people employed.
This default view immediately shows the largest occupations in the selected country.
Grouping Occupations by Growth
You can change how occupations are displayed using the Group By options:
Switch from workforce size to Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR).
Occupations will then be grouped by growth rate rather than size.
In this view:
High-growth occupations appear first.
As you scroll, you will see occupations with slower growth or employment decline.
Using the Occupation Report List View
For a more structured analysis:
Open the Occupation Report in list view.
Sort occupations to view the largest roles overall.
Use the layered (taxonomy) view to break occupations down by:
Major
Minor
Broad
Specific occupation
Drilling Down by Sector or Economy
To find the largest occupation within a specific area:
Expand a major category (for example, Health).
Drill down into a minor or broad category (such as Treatment).
Review the occupations listed under that category.
The occupation with the highest workforce count in the list is the largest for that category.
Alongside workforce size, you will also see:
Projected workforce size for 2030
Change in employment (count and percentage)
Median wage
Typical minimum educational qualification
Using Visualizations to Identify Large Occupations
Labour Market Intelligence offers additional visual tools to analyse the same data from different perspectives:
Bubble Chart
Each bubble represents an occupation.
Bubble size reflects workforce size.
You can filter by taxonomy or sector to focus on specific economies.
Hovering over a bubble reveals detailed employment information.
Donut Chart
Displays occupations by economy and category in concentric rings.
Inner rings represent broader categories; outer rings represent more detailed occupations.
Hovering over slices shows employment totals for 2025 and projections for 2030.
Heat Map
Highlights occupations based on size or other selected metrics.
Useful for quickly spotting the largest occupations within a defined scope.
