How to Visually Explore Workforce Composition Using the Donut Report

The Donut Report allows users to visually explore workforce composition across sectors and occupations. Providing an interactive, layered view of employment data to to understand workforce size, growth, and key occupation details at a glance.

Accessing the Donut Report

  1. Navigate to Labour Market Intelligence.

  2. Go to Labour Data & Reports.

  3. From the Occupations sub-menu, select the Donut Report.


Understanding the Donut Visualization

  • The donut begins with major sectors at the highest level.

  • As you interact with the visualization, you can drill down into more detailed groupings, eventually reaching the occupation level.

  • Each slice represents a sector, group, or occupation, depending on your zoom level.


Viewing Workforce and Growth Details

When you hover over any slice in the donut, you can see:

  • The name of the sector or occupation

  • Number of employees in 2025 and projected employment in 2030

  • Estimated growth expressed as:

    • Number of employees

    • Compound annual growth rate (CAGR)


Exploring Occupation-Level Insights

At the occupation level, the Donut Report may display additional information, including:

  • Typical degree or education requirements

  • Median wage data, where available

You can return to the full donut view at any time by selecting the Zoom Out option.


Refining the Visualization with Filters

The Donut Report includes several controls that allow you to tailor the view:

  • Drop-down filters to adjust:

    • What the size of each slice represents

    • The order in which slices are displayed

  • A search function to quickly find specific occupations

  • A relevance threshold to limit the visualization to the most significant roles


Accessing Detailed Occupation Information

If you click on the name of a specific occupation:

  • A side panel opens on the right

  • The panel includes:

    • A description of the occupation

    • Required or associated skills
