How to Identify Occupations by Education and Qualification Requirements

This article explains how to use Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) data to identify occupations based on their typical education and qualification requirements

Updated yesterday

Accessing the Occupation Index

  1. Navigate to Labour Market Intelligence

  2. Go to Labour Data and Reports

  3. Open the Index report from the reports menu

The Index provides an overview of all available occupations, including workforce size and projected growth.

Understanding the Index View

In the Index, you will see:

  • A list of occupations

  • Total workforce size for each occupation

  • Projected growth through 2030, shown both as a number and a percentage

    • Positive growth appears in green

    • No growth or decline appears in red

Clicking on any occupation opens a sidebar with:

  • A description of the occupation

  • Key skills associated with the role

Filtering by Education and Qualification Requirements

To identify occupations by education level:

  1. Locate the Educational Qualification drop-down menu in the top-right corner of the Index.

  2. Select one or more qualification levels

  3. The occupation list will automatically update based on your selection.

You can select multiple education levels at the same time, for example, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, to view occupations that typically require education at or above those levels.

To return to the full list of occupations, clear your selections in the drop-down.

What the Filter Affects

  • The filter does not change workforce or growth numbers.

  • It only determines which occupations appear in the list based on their typical minimum education requirements.
