How to Identify the Skills Required for Specific Occupations

This article explains how to find and interpret the skills employers require for a given occupation in HolonIQ’s Labour Market Intelligence.

1. Locating the Occupation details side panel

  1. In Labour Market Intelligence, navigate to one of the Occupation reports:

    • Use search or browse the Report to locate a specific Occupation.

  2. Open the occupation details:

    • Click on the Occupation name (for example click on a bubble from the Bubble report) to open the Occupation side panel.

What you’ll see in the occupation side panel

  • Short description of Occupation

  • “Profile” with the metrics on the workforce numbers/ growth rate.

  • “Skills” with quick links to open the Skills side panel for deeper exploration.

    (Top-ranked skills that are core to the role appear at the top).


    2. Locating the Skills side panel

  • From the Occupation side panel:

    • Click on the name or any of the Skills to open the Skill side panel.

  • Or from the Reports menu bar:

    • Open Labour Market IntelligenceSkills report

      • Click any Skill name to open a Skill detail card in the side panel

      • Use search within the Skills Report to find a specific Skill.

  • The Skill panel typically shows:

    • Short description of the Skill

    • List of Skill metrics.

    • List of Occupations using the Skill.

2. Understand how Skills map to Occupations

  • One Occupation can require many Skills; one Skill can apply to many Occupations.

  • Mapping shows strength of association (match score/importance)
