How do I get an overview of Subject Rankings for an institution compared to its peers?

View and compare subject rankings by discipline, institution, or peer group

1. Open the ‘Subject Rankings’ data set

Navigate to the Subject Rankings Dataset from the left-hand menu.


2. View the Highlights report

The Dataset opens in the Highlights report, displaying grouped bar graphs filtered by discipline and subject. By default, the Subjects dropdown at the top of the screen will be set initially to Subject Overview.


This provides a top-down overview and comparison of your University’s current subject rankings in all Subjects against your selected Benchmark Peers.
You’ll be viewing the data in the context of your chosen Focus Institution.

3. Adjust your peer comparison

Click the Benchmark Peers dropdown in the top-right corner to choose which peers to compare your University with.
You can select from:

  • Master Peer list

  • Custom list

  • QS Curated list

  • Regional or Subregional group

  • Territory


4. Change displayed values and view type

Use the Values buttons to switch between Rank, Score, or Percentile.
You can also toggle between Kanban and Landscape view.

5. Explore the SWOT report

Navigate to the SWOT report to see a detailed analysis of your chosen institution’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats compared to the Benchmark Peers.

6. Drill down into a specific subject

Use the Subjects dropdown at the top of the data set to select a specific study area for deeper analysis.
This allows you to access more detailed reports focused on that particular discipline.
