Building Custom Dashboards

This guide will walk you through the different ways you can start to build out your own dashboards

Updated this week

HolonIQ dashboards can be tailored to focus on specific market segments, geographies, topics, company groups, or individual institutions - giving you control over the data that matters most to you.

There are multiple ways to build a custom dashboard. Below are two common approaches:

Option 1: Start by Cloning, Then Make It Your Own

Cloning lets you create a copy of any dashboard - whether it’s a pre-built one, a dashboard shared by another user in your workspace, or one of your own.

This is ideal when you want to:

  • Reuse an existing layout

  • Customize filters and widgets without starting from scratch

  • Make simple changes, like switching a geography or topic

To get started:

  1. Clone the dashboard.

  2. Edit the widgets to reflect your specific interests—such as changing the region, category of Developments, or the type of organizations displayed.

Option 2: Start from Scratch

You can also build a dashboard from the ground up by clicking [+ New Dashboard].

You’ll be prompted to:

  • Name your dashboard

  • Optionally publish or share it with members of your workspace

Dashboard Settings

Once created, dashboards can be further managed using the Edit icon. From there, you can:

  • Rename the dashboard

  • Move it to another workspace

  • Unpublish or delete it

Dashboard Structure

Columns

Dashboards are organized into columns. Each column can have a title and contains one or more widgets.

Widgets

Widgets are modular, interactive elements that display specific data insights and are the building blocks of reports and dashboards.

Widgets can take various forms—such as charts, tables, maps, or key metrics. Each widget is driven by filters, topics, or data sources and allows you to monitor, explore, and compare information in a visual, user-friendly way.

Working with Widgets

You can add widgets to any dashboard by clicking the three dots (…) on widgets throughout the platform. Simply select the widget and choose the dashboard you’d like it added to.

Select a widget title and the specific dashboard you want this widget to be added to.

Here are a few ways to get more out of widgets:

Go Directly Into the Developments Dataset

Users can apply filters directly in the Developments dataset to narrow down what they'd like to track. Broadly speaking, you might consider breaking your widgets out by geography, or market segment. For other folks more focused on funding/deal activity, you can even narrow down the Developments to a specific funding stage.

Create a List of Your Competitors/Peers First

You can also create a widget that tracks the activity of a specific group of companies or institutions. You'll start by creating that list of Organizations (check our Lists help article to walk you through that process), and Developments only related to those Organizations will show up on your Dashboard. Organizations Lists can be used as a filter throughout the platform.
