How to Find New Institutions Added to the QS Rankings

A guide to finding any newly added universities to any QS Rankings dataset

Updated yesterday

If you want to see which higher education institutions are new entrants to any of the QS Rankings datasets (e.g. World University Rankings, Academic Rankings, or Employer Reputation), you can do this easily from any given dataset.

Steps:

  1. In the Report bar, choose the Index Report of the given Dataset.

  2. Next, set the Focus – Institution Selector to “Overview.”

  3. Toggle the “Group by” button from Rank to Change.

*note - this toggle essentially functions as an Order by control, letting you reorder the list.

  4. In the Benchmark Peers dropdown, ensure you select "Clear Selections"

  5. Using the bottom cursor, scroll to the right in the table view.
You’ll first see the institutions that have moved down the most in the rankings.

  6. Continue scrolling past those institutions — immediately after them, you’ll find all newly ranked universities.

  7. In the right-hand column (next to each institution’s name), look for the blue label “New.”
*this label indicates that the university has appeared in the dataset for the first time.

Notes:

  • “New” institutions can appear in any QS dataset (e.g. Subject Rankings, Regional Rankings, etc).

  • This method works the same way for any ranking year you select.

  • The “New” label only applies to the current dataset view — if you change filters (e.g., region, subject), the visible list will update accordingly.
