What Insights can I gather on my Academic Reputation on a Subject Level

How to gather insights on Academic Reputation at a subject level within the QS HolonIQ platform.

Accessing the Academic Reputation Dataset

From the platform home screen, Academic Reputation data can be accessed in two ways:

  • Under the Institutional Performance menu on the home screen, or

  • From the left-hand side navigation menu.


Understanding the Overview

Once inside the Academic Reputation view, you’ll see a broad, top-down overview of rankings based on academic reputation.

  • Peer institutions from your master list will be highlighted.

Exploring the Highlights Report

Select the Highlights Report to get a more granular view of a chosen university.
You can pick your university from the drop-down menu at the top.

This report shows:

  • Subject-level strengths and weaknesses

  • Overall ranking and percentile information

  • A visual breakdown of nominations across broad subject areas such as Social Sciences & Management, Engineering & Technology, and Life Sciences.

Scrolling further down, you’ll also find:

  • The total number of respondents by subject

  • The percentage of respondents who nominated your selected institution for a specific subject.


Exploring Subject-Level Trends

For more granular insights, navigate to the Subject drop-down menu at the top of the page. Several reports are available here, including:

1. Subject Grid

For deeper insights, open the Subjects drop-down menu and select Subject Grid under the Reports section.

This grid shows:

  • Broader subject areas (e.g., Engineering & Technology, Social Sciences)

  • Total, domestic, and international nominations

  • Your institution (highlighted on the line graph) benchmarked against your selected Benchmarking Peers

You can also switch your peer comparison to:

  • Any of the QS curated lists

  • Your custom peer lists


2. Tree Map

Displays nominations by broad study area and specific subjects.
For example, you might see Petroleum Engineering with 989 nominations under Engineering & Technology.

3. Subject Columns

Compare nomination numbers at a glance.
Your selected university is represented by a dot, alongside other peers from your master list.

4. Subject Landscape

Provides a landscape-style overview for an alternative visual representation of your subject-level reputation data.
