1. Build a List of Competitors, Peers, and/or Targets
1.1 Bottom-Up Approach
Since you already know the organizations you want to track and are building a list of those entities, you can add those organizations by name (or by using their URL) to a blank or existing list.
1.2 Top-Down Approach
The top-down approach is ideal for users who may not know specific organizations they want to track but want to identify major players or target organizations in a specific market segment using filters directly in the Organizations dataset.
Select filters from using our taxonomy, geographic framework, or topic pages within the to define the organizations you want to track. For example, if you’re interested in companies in the assessment space, you can start by applying the Cluster filter:
Once your filters are applied, you can create an active list. This list will automatically update with any new organizations that meet the search criteria, so you’ll always be up-to-date without needing to manually add each organization. The system will process the filters and pull in all organizations that match the search criteria.
You can also segment your List even further using the Market Map tab, to then create smaller lists based on your metrics/segmentation.
2. Customize Your Dashboard for Competitor/Peer Updates
2.1 Customize Your Dashboard based on an Existing Organization List
Once your Organization list has been created, you can add the “Latest Developments” widget to your dashboard.
Users can customize Dashboards to track market developments relevant to your competitors. You can further refine the Developments by Subcategories like product updates, partnerships, or other specific events. You can edit your dashboard widgets based on your needs and current focuses as well.
2.2 Customize Your Dashboard based on Specific Keywords
Users can also go directly into the Developments dataset and apply a grouping of filters that mention specific keywords or names in their Headline or Summary. Take a look a this example showing you how to capture Developments that might not have the Organization(s) as a linked entity, so you don't miss a single thing:
Additional Tips for Competitor Intelligence Tracking
Create Multiple Lists: You can set up different lists for different types of competitors or target organizations (e.g., direct competitors, market leaders, or emerging players).
Use Multiple Dashboards: If your team has diverse interests, consider creating different dashboards for each team (e.g., sales, product, marketing).
