How to Find Indicator and Metric level data in Rankings Datasets

Types of data available on the platform by level of detail

This guide will help you locate and understand Indicator and Metric level data in our rankings Datasets, including World University, Regional, Subject, Sustainability and GME Rankings.


1. Accessing the Indicators and Metrics data

You can find indicator and metric data in multiple datasets:

  • World Rankings

  • Regional Rankings

  • Subject Rankings

  • Sustainability Rankings

  • GME Rankings


2. Navigating the Indicators Report

Look for the "Indicators" Report in the Reports bar near the top left of your screen:

When you hover over or open the Indicators Report, you will see data presented at different levels:

At this level, you can view key information on Rank, Score and Percentile for each Indicator

3. Special Steps for Subject Rankings

When viewing Subject Rankings, you must take an additional step:

  1. Select a Specific Subject from the Subject Dropdown.
    If you stay in the "Subject Overview", the Indicators and Analytics/ Heatmap reports will not be visible, because the content is Subject specific. As such, click into a particular Subject to see the full menu of reports.

Note - for all other Datasets (other than Subject Rankings), the Indicators and Analytics Report will be displayed by default.


4. Navigating the Heatmap Report

  1. Navigate to the Analytics reports and select Heatmap


  2. Select the Indicator or Metric you need from the Values Dropdown


5. Summary Steps for accessing Indicators and Metrics

  1. Access your desired ranking dataset.

  2. Look for the Indicators Report or the Analytics Report in the top left corner.

  3. If using Subject Rankings, select a specific subject from the dropdown, do not stay in Subject Overview.

  4. Hover over the Report to view indicator levels.

  5. Drill down for metric-level (underlying data) as needed.
