The Indicators Report gives you a detailed view of performance across each of the ranking indicators and their individual metrics

Updated this week

Using the Indicator Report

The Indicator Report is best for exploring performance across all ranking indicators. It’s available consistently across all QS Rankings datasets, including:

  • World University Rankings

  • Subject Rankings

  • Regional Rankings

  • Sustainability Rankings

  • GME Rankings

Overview of Indicators & Themes

When you hover over the Indicator Report menu, you’ll see:

  • A breakdown of each indicator and its weight.

  • Grouping by thematic areas, which helps structure your analysis

Accessing the Indicator Map

When you open the Indicator Report, the first section you’ll see is the Indicator Map.

The Indicator Map allows you to:

  • View a side-by-side comparison of each indicators across selected benchmark peers. Identify trends and outliers across multiple indicators in a single view.

  • Compare rank, percentile, or score for each indicator.

  • Understand performance distribution using upper/lower quartiles and min-max ranges. Or focus solely on your institution by turning off the context lines (quartiles and min-max).

💡 Note: Your institution is represented by a dark or bolded line in each chart.

Comparing Indicators

The Indicator Map allows flexible comparisons:

  • Quickly identify how your institution stacks up against selected peers across all indicators.

  • Use the Benchmark Period dropdown and Zoomed charts to identify trends. You can turn Zoom off for a consistent scale across all charts.

Exploring Individual Indicators

From the Indicator Report dropdown, you can drill into any single indicator to explore it in depth.

For each indicator:

  • See rank and percentile trends Year over Year, or by selected Benchmark Period

  • View box plot charts showing nominations and responses data across domestic, benchmark, and global peers. Also by faculty.

  • Switch between Rank, Percentile, and Score, and the charts will update instantly

This section gives you a focused view of how each indicator contributes to your overall performance.

Analyzing Sub-Metrics

Each indicator can be broken down further into Sub-Metrics.

For example, within Academic Reputation, you can:

  • Drill down by subject area (e.g., Life Sciences & Medicine)

  • Explore sub-levels such as contribution, weighted score, and overall score

  • Track how these sub-metrics change over time and across domestic, benchmark, and global peers

This granular view helps uncover specific strengths and opportunities at the faculty, subject, or respondent level.

Saving & Adding Charts to Dashboards

Any chart within the Indicator Map or specific Indicator views can be:

  • Added to your dashboard as a widget.

  • Saved as an image/Added to your clipboard for use outside the platform (e.g., in reports or presentations).
