Using the Indicator Report
The Indicator Report is best for exploring performance across all ranking indicators. It’s available consistently across all QS Rankings datasets, including:
World University Rankings
Subject Rankings
Regional Rankings
Sustainability Rankings
GME Rankings
Overview of Indicators & Themes
When you hover over the Indicator Report menu, you’ll see:
A breakdown of each indicator and its weight.
Grouping by thematic areas, which helps structure your analysis
Accessing the Indicator Map
When you open the Indicator Report, the first section you’ll see is the Indicator Map.
The Indicator Map allows you to:
View a side-by-side comparison of each indicators across selected benchmark peers. Identify trends and outliers across multiple indicators in a single view.
Compare rank, percentile, or score for each indicator.
Understand performance distribution using upper/lower quartiles and min-max ranges. Or focus solely on your institution by turning off the context lines (quartiles and min-max).
💡 Note: Your institution is represented by a dark or bolded line in each chart.
Comparing Indicators
The Indicator Map allows flexible comparisons:
Quickly identify how your institution stacks up against selected peers across all indicators.
Use the Benchmark Period dropdown and Zoomed charts to identify trends. You can turn Zoom off for a consistent scale across all charts.
Exploring Individual Indicators
From the Indicator Report dropdown, you can drill into any single indicator to explore it in depth.
For each indicator:
See rank and percentile trends Year over Year, or by selected Benchmark Period
View box plot charts showing nominations and responses data across domestic, benchmark, and global peers. Also by faculty.
Switch between Rank, Percentile, and Score, and the charts will update instantly
This section gives you a focused view of how each indicator contributes to your overall performance.
Analyzing Sub-Metrics
Each indicator can be broken down further into Sub-Metrics.
For example, within Academic Reputation, you can:
Drill down by subject area (e.g., Life Sciences & Medicine)
Explore sub-levels such as contribution, weighted score, and overall score
Track how these sub-metrics change over time and across domestic, benchmark, and global peers
This granular view helps uncover specific strengths and opportunities at the faculty, subject, or respondent level.
Saving & Adding Charts to Dashboards
Any chart within the Indicator Map or specific Indicator views can be:
Added to your dashboard as a widget.
Saved as an image/Added to your clipboard for use outside the platform (e.g., in reports or presentations).
